The impact of OpenCourseWare in Spain and Latin America

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and Universia, a network of more than 1200 IberoAmerican universities, have released a report on OCW in Spanish and Latin American higher education.

EdX has chosen a strategy of quality instead of quantity like Coursera. It is a consortium of top universities around the world. Since today the consortium has 12 members:

From the USA: MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, University of Texas System, Wellesley, Georgetown University and since today Rice University

The project proposal for the OCW4STEM project is finalized. The proposal is for the EU Erasmus Life Long Learning programme as an Academic Network grant.

This consortium wants to address the high demand for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with use of Open Educational Resources (OER) and OpenCourseWare (OCW). On the supply side the consortium identifies and organises the collection of existing courses and it looks at new ways of education, such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). This should position Europe as leading region in the field of Open Education.

Open Educational Resources to Help More Women and Girls in STEM

Last week, Creative Commons and the OpenCourseWare Consortium announced the formation of a task force to help bring open educational resources to women and girls seeking to advance themselves in STEM education. This task force will support the Equal Futures Partnership to expand women’s political participation and economic opportunity. The Equal Futures Partnership was launched last week by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
