The Creative Commons 4.0 the third and final draft has been long in the making, but it’s thought to be all the better for the extended discussion and drafting period, and therefore that much closer to finalization and realizing its full potential as an international license suite.

The project proposal for the OCW4STEM project is finalized. The proposal is for the EU Erasmus Life Long Learning programme as an Academic Network grant.

This consortium wants to address the high demand for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with use of Open Educational Resources (OER) and OpenCourseWare (OCW). On the supply side the consortium identifies and organises the collection of existing courses and it looks at new ways of education, such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). This should position Europe as leading region in the field of Open Education.

OCWC Global 2013, hosted by APTIKOM Indonesia, will be held in Bali, Indonesia May 8-10. Partnering with the OCWC and APTIKOM for the realization of conference goals is a local organizing team which includes the National ICT Council of Indonesia, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Information and Communication, and the Indonesian Open University.

US Department of State Unveils Open Book Project

Last monday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton unveiled the Open Book Project (remarks, fact sheet, press notice), an initiative to expand access to free, high-quality educational materials in Arabic, with a particular focus on science and technology. These resources will be released under open licenses that allow their free use, sharing, and adaptation to local context.
